Immersion Week Program

Immersion Week is intended to allow for high-interest, hands-on, interactive learning outside of the normal classroom experience.

Teachers work together to craft meaningful experiences for the students.  Much time and planning goes into making these experiences spark the curiosity and interest of students.

2014 IMMERSION Week Offerings

The Best of England! A Week-Long International Immersion
A unique opportunity to travel to England for “The Best of England” tour through EF Tours. We will tour London extensively and popular British attractions including Big Ben, Windsor Castle, Stratford-on-Avon (birthplace of William Shakespeare), and Stonehenge.

Boston - Philly—A US History Tour
A four-day visit to our Nation’s Historical Sites! We will be flying into Boston where a tour bus will greet us for a tour of the city and on to our hotel! We’ll be visiting many historical sites, museums, and more!

Rambo Warrior
Examine the military forces, both past and present, in the United States. Visit museums, the National Guard, and Fort Knox. Students will meet real members of the armed forces and see what goes on behind the scenes at Fort Knox with an over-night trip to the military base.

Meeting at the Crossroads
A four day overnight retreat experience which focuses on immersing ourselves in the Louisville community by means of service and understanding.

Exploring Kentucky
Explore all that Kentucky has to offer! Hike, cave, camp, and canoe in the beautiful Red River Gorge.

The Fight and Flight of Fencing
Immerse yourself in a world of Fencing. Spend four days with a top-notch training in a top-notch training facility right downtown! Lunch will be provided each day along with the training fees, t-shirt, and pants. All gear will be provided during the immersion.

Ghostbusters
Explore the supernatural world both on and off-campus. Visit local cemeteries, participate in a staged séance, and tour the historic Waverly Hills Sanatorium…at midnight!

United We Serve!
Students will learn the value of teamwork as they labor together to reach a common goal. Time will be spent at local service agencies and service hours/credits will be awarded to those that participate based on the actual work completed. Manual labor is involved with this offering.

Careers in Sports
Experience popular sports and activities in the Louisville area while learning about career opportunities that don’t involve being a professional athlete.

Louisville: History, Horses, and Culture
Explore the rich history of Louisville! Take a walking tour of historic Main Street. Visit the new arena, Glassworks, the Little Loom House and Churchill Downs. Learn more about the importance of the horse industry in Kentucky, architecture, and industry in our city.

Culture Shock
Do you enjoy learning about other cultures? From dining to dancing, you will learn about and experience other cultures first hand—avoiding a culture shock when you travel the world!

A Day in the Life
Spend the week exploring career opportunities first hand through a job shadowing experience around Louisville through Junior Achievement. Students will be matched up with a professional in groups each day to understand the ins and outs of a particular career from manufacturing to medical!

Brain Games
The Brain Games are back and better than before with a mix of strategy, skills, and a whole lot of fun! Spend the days using new and seasoned skill sets to excel in ways you never thought possible and didn’t realize could be so much fun!

Careers in Law Enforcement
Explore different career paths through guest speakers, activities, and visits to crime labs, courts, training facilities, and the local jail.
