DeSales’ small size allows us to give individualized attention to better meet the needs of each student.  Our Learning Resources Coordinator works collaboratively with students, parents, and teachers to help ensure the success of all DeSales’ students by:

  • Serving as a resource for parents who are concerned with their son’s classroom performance.

  • Working to arrange test accommodations for standardizes tests such as the ACT, PSAT, and SAT.

  • Supporting students identified with disabilities that range from hearing impairments, speech and language disorders, learning differences, Attention Deficit Disorders, Asperger’s Syndrome, physical limitations, etc.

  • Developing 504 Plans for students with identified learning differences.

  • Serving as an advocate for students in the classroom.

  • Offering support opportunities to students preparing for post-secondary education.

  • Leading parent seminars.

  • Providing resource and support materials to classroom teachers for all DeSales students.

  • Providing supplemental materials to parents and tutors for students.

  • Providing guidance to improve study habits and organizational skills.

Did you know…

  • That learning disabilities are caused by a difference in brain structure that is present at birth? These differences affect one’s ability to receive, process, store, express, and respond to information.

  • That 15 to 20% of the people in the US have a learning disability?

  • That because learning disabilities cannot be seen, they often go undetected?

  • That many successful people have overcome their struggles in the classroom to become legendary and iconic? Albert Einstein, Hans Christen Anderson, John F. Kennedy, Mozart, Nolan Ryan, John Lennon, and Magic Johnson had learning differences.

How a person learns is as unique to them as their fingerprints. Some are auditory learners, some are visual learners, and others learn kinesthetically. Helping individuals to understand how they learn best and how to advocate for one’s self, is crucial for success in the classroom.
