DeSales Football Team to Be
Recognized in Frankfort
Appearance at the State Capitol caps a month-long celebration
January
16, 2014 – Following an historic football season at DeSales, a
special appearance in the state’s capital city by the Colts team is
next on the list of firsts for the school.
DeSales (14-1) completed a dominant run through the
postseason playoffs in 2013 with a victory in the Russell Athletic/KHSAA
Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl 2A Championship game, defeating Newport
Central Catholic on December 7th in Bowling Green.
It is the school’s first state championship in football
and the school’s first title in any sport since winning three Cross
Country titles from 1968-70. The 14 wins also set a new school record.
At the invitation of Representative Denny Butler, who
is himself a DeSales graduate of 1988, and Senator Perry Clark, a 1975
graduate, the Colts team and coaches will appear at the Capitol on
Friday, January 17th and receive formal recognition on both the House
and Senate floors. The ceremony is scheduled for 9:00 am EST.
Coach Harold Davis, a 1982 graduate of the school, is
in only his second season as head coach of the Colts.
“It’s a great honor to receive this kind of
recognition” said Davis. “These young men dedicated themselves all
season to representing DeSales in the best way, and it was nice to see
that hard work and positive attitude pay off. We are very proud to
represent such a great school.”
